Daniel Qian
Hello! My name is Daniel Qian.
I am a 3rd year PhD student in Computer Science at NYU Courant, advised by
Jinyang Li and
Anirudh Sivaraman. I work on
designing practical Distrubuted protocols, and recently have been interested
in using formal methods
Previously, I was a software engineer at Bloomberg LP. There, I worked on
observability infrastructure and ML in finance.
I graduated in August 2021 from Johns Hopkins University with both a B.S.
and M.S.E. in Computer Science. My advisor was
Yair Amir, who I worked
with at the
Distributed Networks and Systems Lab.
For my Master's degree, I wrote a
project report on my research in
Byzantine Resilience for Power Grid substations.

Projects
I like making websites. Mine don't tend to be very pretty (as you can see
from this one), unless someone else does the design, but they usually serve
a fun purpose! Here are a few examples.
- WikiSpeedruns: A
platform for "Wikipedia racing", a game where you try to get from one
Wikipedia article to another as fast as possible. (Github repo)
- Scav Hunt Tracker: A little React+Firebase web app I made for keeping track of a scavenger
hunt among friends. Recently updated (June 2026) to support making your own games!
- HopHacks Website:
Website for JHU's official hackathon; tracks participant registration and
attendance. A lot has changed though since I graduated in 2021.
